As of midnight March 28, 2010, the federal flood insurance program expires. This means no new flood insurance policies will be issued or renewed until April 12 AT THE EARLIEST when Congress returns after Easter break. Your current policy will not be affected. Lenders require flood insurance on certain properties in the 100 year flood plain. If you are about to close on a home in the next few weeks be sure the property does not require flood insurance. If the lender requires flood insurance you will have to postpone the closing until you can obtain flood insurance.
